Independent British blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Adam Sweet has introduced his third studio album Mortuary Blues through fresh release coverage, revealing an atmospheric recording process inside an authentic former Victorian mortuary building.
Sweet purchased the derelict mortuary property and converted it into an inspired creative workspace, providing organic acoustics and palpable historical ambience. Mortuary Blues draws from classic rock, roots blues, country and soul, pairing traditional guitar instrumentation with contemporary songwriting themes including economic pressure, burnout and modern creative resilience.
Initial tracking sessions took place at Momentum Studios in Plymouth with Sweet's road-tested touring band—featuring Garry Kroll on drums, Paddy Blight on bass and Tom Hughes on organ—engineered by Josiah J Manning. Additional vocals, overdubs and mixing were handled at Sweet's own Mortuary Studio, before Alex McCollough completed mastering in Nashville.
Key tracks include "Backstop," co-written with Nashville songwriter Hugh Moffatt, and the impassioned title cut "The Mortuary Blues," alongside "Full Moon Fight," "Fortune Ain't Free" and "White Lies" featuring guest vocalist Alex Hart. Sweet's project illustrates the lasting power of independent roots music played live by skilled musicians in real rooms.
