Bladee prepares Sulfur Surfer with Blondie and a darker Drain Gang signal

Bladee’s Sulfur Surfer announcement remains one of the more intriguing alternative and internet-underground stories going into 17 May. The new album is due 20 May via Trash Island and is produced by Whitearmor, Bladee’s longtime Drain Gang collaborator.

The new track Blondie arrived with a Joe Ward-directed video set in a tunnel with eerie, cinematic lighting, giving the rollout a cold and devotional visual mood. The most unexpected detail is the confirmed involvement of Current 93, David Tibet’s doom-folk project, which suggests that Sulfur Surfer may lean into stranger and more ritualistic territory than a straightforward cloud-rap release. Bladee has always existed between scenes: rap, experimental pop, electronic music, fashion, online mythology and emotional abstraction. His music can feel fragile, synthetic, spiritual and detached all at once, which is why his fanbase treats new announcements as world-building events rather than ordinary release-calendar entries.
