Brooklyn post-hardcore quartet bloodsports have released "Ten Thousand Feet", their first new studio recording since debut album Anything Can Be A Hammer appeared through Good English Records in October 2025. The single arrives in the midst of the group's first extensive European tour and delivers another ferocious display of their unpredictable, abrasive take on noise rock and post-punk.
Rather than developing the track through a traditional single-songwriter approach, the band assembled musical sections collaboratively in rehearsal, allowing improvisational ideas tested during live shows to mold the finished studio cut. The song's lyrical narrative draws inspiration from the surreal story of American baseball catcher Joe Sprinz, who famously attempted to catch a baseball dropped from an airborne blimp. The disastrous experiment left Sprinz with severe injuries, providing the band with a biting metaphor for frustration, reckless vanity, and misguided ambition.
The current lineup consists of Sam Murphy, Jeremy Mock, Liv Eriksen, and Scott Hale. Their European run kicked off at Portugal's Mucho Flow Festival and features a critical stop for Dutch independent music enthusiasts on October 31 at the London Calling Festival inside Amsterdam's Paradiso. Further festival appearances include Les Nuits Weekender in Brussels on November 1, Pitchfork Music Festival Paris on November 6, and Pitchfork Music Festival London on November 7.
Bloodsports exemplify the surging international vitality of adventurous American underground guitar acts. "Ten Thousand Feet" indicates that their collective chemistry continues to evolve aggressively beyond their debut LP. Apparently vintage sports lore provides ideal fuel for alternative rock, especially when the story involves an athlete making an astonishingly catastrophic decision.
