Dublin collective Bricknasty have announced a seven-track EP called forever for November 6 through FAMM and shared "the dom perignons" as its latest single. The new song finds the group leaning toward early-2000s 2-step, strings and synthesizers before changing direction near the finish, which is entirely consistent with a band that regards staying in one genre for an entire track as unnecessary bureaucracy.
forever was reportedly written within only a few weeks and is intended to be Bricknasty's most direct release yet, mixing contemporary R&B, jazz, hip-hop, dance music and Irish traditional influences while placing greater emphasis on hooks and movement. Dove Ellis appears on "G unit," while recent track "bobinov" also features on the EP.
Bricknasty's earlier music has frequently sounded as though several excellent bands have been accidentally booked into the same rehearsal room and eventually decided to collaborate. Their own assessment of the new approach is rather simpler: previous work sometimes turned creation into rocket science, while forever deliberately strips back some of that complexity. "the dom perignons" suggests simplification has not made them normal. Thankfully, nobody asked for that.
