Former NY Loose frontwoman Brijitte West is returning with Brijitte West and the Greenowskis, a new 14-track album due November 13 through Rum Bar Records. Recorded in Italy with an all-Italian backing band, the record combines twelve new songs with a cover of the Dead Boys' 'All This and More' and an acoustic revisit of NY Loose deep cut 'The Luckiest Girl'.
First single 'Doin' Alright' establishes the record's attitude immediately: West is still here, still making noise and apparently uninterested in becoming a tasteful rock-and-roll museum exhibit. Several songs revisit her New York history: 'My Lower East Side' looks back at the competitive club culture and poster wars surrounding emerging bands, while 'Nobody Won' reflects on the difficult final years of NY Loose.
Elsewhere, 'Sorry I've Been a Stranger' addresses reconnection after long separation and 'Don't Hurt Yourself' tackles a much more serious personal subject. West describes the project as potentially the strongest record she has made and, in some ways, the NY Loose album that never happened. For enthusiasts of raw punk rock and garage rock, nostalgia is present, but the amplifiers are very much switched on in the present tense.
