Brooklyn indie-pop outfit Trinket have announced their signing to Take Care Records and released "If Not Soon Then Now", their first new recording since the 2024 EP New Hobby. The group, formed by Madison Kate Proffitt and Sean Camargo, combines jangling guitars with melodic songwriting and the understated charm associated with classic independent pop.

Both musicians bring experience from other projects. Proffitt has performed with Lightheaded and Betty Brite, while Camargo is associated with post-punk group S.C.A.B. Their combined musical backgrounds help explain Trinket's ability to move between bright guitar arrangements and more complicated emotional themes. "If Not Soon Then Now" examines the uncomfortable discovery that beginning a new romantic relationship does not automatically eliminate insecurities inherited from previous experiences. The excitement of meeting somebody new becomes complicated by the fear of repeating familiar mistakes.

The recording explores how worrying about ruining something promising can become a problem in itself. Trinket have developed their audience through performances within Brooklyn's independent scene, sharing stages with Heavenly, Golden Apples and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. They are also scheduled to support Starcleaner Reunion at an upcoming album-release performance.

A debut full-length album is planned for 2027, although its title and precise release date have not yet been confirmed. The signing represents an encouraging development for a band whose musical identity draws upon the enduring appeal of guitar-driven indie pop. "If Not Soon Then Now" suggests that emotional baggage remains surprisingly difficult to dispose of, even when accompanied by excellent melodies and a particularly attractive collection of guitar pedals.
