2 October 2026 – Castaway Chase Their Golden Era Before Debut Album Day Arrives

Christchurch five-piece Castaway release "Golden Era" today, the final single before their forthcoming debut album and an unapologetically euphoric piece of indie pop about the inconvenient fact that you usually recognise life's golden periods after they have ended. The band combine shimmering guitars, soaring dual vocals, saxophone hooks and a persistent synth groove while looking back at youthful freedom, summer nights and the reckless optimism of assuming the moment will continue indefinitely.

It will not, obviously; calendars remain deeply unsentimental objects. That bittersweet tension keeps "Golden Era" from becoming simple nostalgia. Castaway — Austen, Jack, Jackson, Joe and Rhys — have recently opened for Six60 and Synthony at One NZ Stadium, while earlier singles "Heart Attack" and "Reasons To Stay" have helped build momentum toward the album.

Their pop-rock sound carries enough alternative influence to remain distinctive while cheerfully acknowledging the useful lessons boy bands taught everybody about enormous choruses. As the final pre-album release, "Golden Era" has one specific job: make listeners curious enough to follow Castaway into the longer record. Its combination of immediate melody and emotional hindsight does precisely that. Enjoy the golden era while it lasts. Apparently the debut album is already coming to replace it.
