British shoegaze pioneers Chapterhouse have announced their first Australian and New Zealand tour, scheduled for February and March 2027. The performances celebrate thirty-five years of their landmark 1991 debut Whirlpool, which the band will play in full alongside selections from their wider catalogue within the shoegaze canon.
The tour begins in Brisbane on February 26 before visiting Sydney on February 27 and Melbourne on February 28, followed by Auckland on March 5. Formed in Reading in 1987, Chapterhouse helped establish the atmospheric guitar sound that would become central to the early shoegaze movement. Whirlpool remains a particularly influential example, combining dense guitar textures with melodic songwriting and rhythmic experimentation. The record featured contributions from Cocteau Twins guitarist Robin Guthrie, while standout track "Pearl" included guest vocals from Rachel Goswell of Slowdive.
Chapterhouse moved further toward electronic experimentation on 1993 follow-up Blood Music before splitting in the mid-1990s. Later reunions introduced their catalogue to younger generations. The Australasian announcement represents more than another nostalgia tour; it gives listeners an opportunity to experience a historically vital record performed live by the musicians who created it.
