Margate-based experimental duo COMB have released their fascinating new single "Mosquito" through Brace Yourself Records, featuring guest lead vocals from Tony Morris. What began as an instrumental acoustic sketch composed by multi-instrumentalist Jim Dixon blossomed into an engaging narrative concerning romantic rejection, sparked by the unexpected receipt of an unwelcome letter.
COMB are known for their physical, inventive approach to instrumentation, incorporating resonant wood blocks, metal singing bowls, and everyday domestic items alongside acoustic guitars and vintage synthesizers. This tactile production gives "Mosquito" a hypnotic, organic texture that recalls both British pastoral folk and contemporary avant-pop.
Following earlier introductory single "Future Days", the new release deepens COMB's creative collaboration with Brace Yourself Records. Dixon and Morris drew inspiration from classic popular songs about written correspondence as well as philosophical reflections on an embarrassing tennis defeat.
"Mosquito" proves that adventurous independent music doesn't need slick studio software when genuine physical vibration and honest storytelling are at hand. Read more experimental updates in our experimental genre section.
