Project mastermind Charles Rowell surrounds reflections on family trauma, violence and mortality with machine-driven rhythms built for a shadowy warehouse floor. The record marks a decisive move away from the project’s earlier guitar and dark-folk foundations toward body music, synth-pop and industrial dance.
Directed by Joshua Hourigan, the accompanying film travels through snowbound countryside and the ruins of an old castle, where spectral movement and fractured editing suggest memories trapped inside the architecture. Captive Youth is available through Avant! Records.
