Crushed turn Just A Clown In The Clouds into a brutal little survival document

Crushed’s Just A Clown In The Clouds is not an album that politely enters the room. Released on 6 June, the New York project offers nine tracks with titles like Wanna Use, Whatever, Used To Be and I Don’t Know Anymore, and the writing reads like a body trying to drag itself through grief, panic and bad coping mechanisms. Produced and mixed by Ben Greenberg at Strange Weather and mastered by Josh Bonati, the record has serious underground infrastructure behind its rough emotional weather. What makes it compelling is the sense of refusal. This is not music designed to make pain elegant. It is ugly, direct, sometimes abrasive and clearly uninterested in pretending survival is tidy. Just A Clown In The Clouds sounds like a document from the place where punk energy, heavy alternative rock and personal collapse meet. It may not comfort you, but it will not lie to you either.
