Dakota Harris keeps Skoden close to the old guitar and the open road

Dakota Harris’ Skoden arrives on 13 June as a six-track Americana and country release with its feet firmly on the ground. The Eugene, Oregon songwriter handles vocals and guitar, with the album recorded, mixed and mastered by Slim Novak at Royal Sound Studios. The release note says the album consists of six Americana/country originals, including a couple from earlier years, and that detail gives Skoden a pleasingly traditional frame. This is not music trying to reinvent roots songwriting with a shiny concept board. It is about the basics: voice, guitar, songs, memory, and enough lived-in feeling to make titles like Me and My Old Guitar and Honey Bee land without irony. Harris is only 21, but the album points toward older musical instincts: preserving, celebrating and continuing a song tradition that still has plenty of road left.
