New Jersey progressive-rock duo Datura Lodge released their self-titled debut album yesterday through ARQUEN Records, an impressively rapid arrival for a project that only formed earlier in 2026. Nicky B and the musician known as W have played together since their teens, so the apparent overnight emergence comes with rather more history underneath it.

The nine-track record moves through progressive and hard-rock territory while deliberately trying to keep hooks within reach, drawing inspiration from Genesis, King Crimson, Rush and The Mars Volta without demanding listeners complete an entrance examination before pressing play. Early single "Mummy" established the record's darker themes of disillusionment and generational frustration, while "Hole" offered another preview before release. Keyboardist Adam Holzman appears on "Mummy," helping the song move from dreamlike unease into a considerably more explosive finale.

Datura Lodge are interested in progressive rock's ability to change direction unexpectedly, but equally interested in making those changes serve songs rather than simply proving everybody involved knows unusual time signatures. For a project formed this year, releasing a nine-track album by October is admirably efficient. Some bands spend their first twelve months arguing about the logo. Datura Lodge apparently decided to make the record first and deal with the stationery later.
