5 October 2026 – DÖLTZ Build Total Recharge From Hardcore, Propeller Hats and a Giant Metallic Moron

Greensboro, North Carolina hardcore quartet DÖLTZ are receiving a substantial new spotlight today around Total Recharge, their second EP and another chapter in what may be independent hardcore's most committed piece of deliberately stupid mythology. The band describe what they do as hardcore for dummies, but the joke is considerably more thought-through than that slogan suggests.

DÖLTZ revolve around propeller hats, collective stupidity and a giant metallic character called DÖLTRON, turning obscure 1980s-style hardcore into something halfway between a punk band and an aggressively low-budget fictional universe. Bad Brad and Mad Matt began putting the project together in 2023 after previous bands dissolved or relocated, with some early planning apparently taking place beside a three-and-a-half-foot above-ground pool. That origin feels entirely appropriate.

Musically, Total Recharge keeps the presentation filthy and direct: reverb-heavy vocals, primitive attack and songs that sound as though unnecessary sophistication has been legally prohibited. The interesting thing is how seriously DÖLTZ take not taking themselves seriously. Punk has always worked best when bands create their own worlds rather than merely copying an established uniform. DÖLTZ have created one involving propeller hats and a metallic idiot. Frankly, plenty of bands have built careers from less.
