Los Angeles experimental-rock band and shoegaze innovators Dummy have released "N of 1", the latest preview of their forthcoming album do you love the color of the sky?, scheduled for October 16 through Polyvinyl. The single demonstrates the group's increasingly adventurous approach to combining shoegaze, electronic music and rhythmically complex alternative rock.

Dummy attracted considerable attention with their 2024 album Free Energy, a record that established their reputation for blending atmospheric guitars with influences from krautrock, psychedelic pop and experimental electronic production. Their latest material continues that exploration while placing greater emphasis on percussion and unconventional arrangements. "N of 1" combines sustained guitar drones with jungle-inspired drums, creating an unusual contrast between slowly evolving textures and energetic rhythmic movement.

Guitarist Joe Trainor has explained that the composition developed from an interest in taking glacial guitar sounds and placing them within a completely different rhythmic environment. The result feels like several musical traditions having an enthusiastic argument before discovering they actually enjoy each other's company. Earlier singles "April Limousine", "Alluvial Fan" and "Full Spectrum Dominance" introduced other aspects of the forthcoming album.

The band have also announced European and British concerts for January 2027, including performances in Bristol, Dublin, Manchester, London, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin. Dummy represent an increasingly interesting direction for contemporary guitar music, where electronic production techniques are becoming integral to the songwriting rather than decorative additions. The album arrives Friday, and "N of 1" provides another encouraging reason to investigate across our shoegaze hub.
