American alternative-rock project Eels have released their sixteenth studio album Cookie Happened through E Works and Play It Again Sam, continuing frontman Mark Oliver Everett's remarkable three-decade career of combining emotional vulnerability with peculiar humour. The twelve-track record arrives thirty years after Eels introduced themselves with their 1996 debut Beautiful Freak.
Cookie Happened includes compositions such as "Clobbered", "Cap in Hand", "All Forgotten", "Bamboozled Again", "I'm on Standby", and "Dum Dums". Earlier single "Cap in Hand" introduced the album's reflective atmosphere through a character confronting personal mistakes and attempting to repair damaged relationships.
Everett explained that the album's title draws inspiration from Cookie Monster's philosophical acceptance of enjoying something sweet even after it is gone. That simple idea becomes a lens for examining mortality, memory, and the transience of human experience.
Recent interviews highlight Everett's resilient outlook despite personal tragedy, finding creative renewal in fatherhood, domestic routine, and life's gentle absurdities. Browse more alternative releases in our news archive.
