Industrial-rock veterans Engines of Aggression release "Wargames" today through Phoenix-based Sonic 9 Entertainment, continuing an unexpectedly durable comeback that began after decades away from the original Los Angeles scene. The track follows 2025 singles "Start a War" and "Nightmare in Pain Town" and combines mechanised rhythms with a hard-rock attack the band themselves place in the broad territory of Rob Zombie and Static-X.
Current members Tripp, Ríos, Sterling and Deech are not newcomers borrowing industrial rock's steel-toed boots for a retro weekend. Engines of Aggression originally formed in Los Angeles in the early 1990s, released the Speak EP in 1993 and debut album Inhuman Nature the following year, then built a Sunset Strip following before industry problems and internal conflict stopped the first run. Their own history includes bills with acts that subsequently became rather substantial, including Korn and System of a Down.
The revived band reissued The Black E.P. in 2024 before moving into new material. "Wargames" therefore occupies the unusual position of being both a new independent single and another chapter in a story begun more than thirty years ago. Industrial rock was supposedly killed, revived and killed again several times during that period. The machinery appears not to have received the memo.
