Philadelphia experimental punk band no-wave outfit Eraser have released a new music video for "DVD", a track from their album Operator!, which originally appeared in July through independent label Siltbreeze Records. The newly released video provides another opportunity to discover a group whose music draws heavily from the abrasive experimental-rock traditions of early-1980s New York.

Eraser combine restless guitar arrangements, unconventional rhythms and the distinctive vocal delivery of Sonam Parikh, creating compositions that frequently sound as though conventional song structures have been deliberately dismantled. "DVD" explores the relationship between outdated physical media, contemporary communication and the increasingly complicated social expectations surrounding digital technology.

The accompanying video was directed by bassist Kat Bean and filmed using digital cameras associated with the early 2000s. Its setting involves an ageing record store, where the musicians interact with older media formats and explore the strange visual atmosphere created by obsolete technology. The approach provides an appropriately playful companion to music concerned with how communication methods change over time.

Operator! addresses themes including grief, personal autonomy, social judgement and the difficulties of maintaining sincerity within contemporary culture. Eraser belong to an underground tradition that values experimentation over immediate commercial accessibility. Their latest video demonstrates that music promotion does not necessarily require expensive cinematic equipment. Sometimes an old camera, a record shop and several musicians with questionable respect for conventional behaviour are sufficient. The album itself is already available; today's development is the new visual release. Follow our punk and post-punk coverage for more.
