US outfit Eventually Flowers have released "Chasing Time," a bright and uplifting indie-rock track highlighted among today's fresh independent discoveries. There is no shortage of songs about time passing, mostly because musicians eventually discover that calendars are terrifying, but "Chasing Time" chooses momentum over existential collapse. The track is built around energetic guitar work and an open, melodic character that makes it feel less like somebody mourning disappearing years and more like a band determined to use them properly.

That distinction gives the song much of its charm. Contemporary indie rock frequently arrives in one of two outfits: meticulously distressed lo-fi or enormous alternative-pop production. Eventually Flowers find a comfortable strip of road between them, keeping the arrangement lively and immediate without polishing away all evidence that human beings played it.
