Philadelphia-based experimental-folk duo @ have released their second full-length album Autosmile through 4AD, marking an important milestone in the development of one of contemporary independent music's more unusual creative partnerships. The group consists of Victoria Rose and Stone Filipczak, two multi-instrumentalists whose songwriting combines psychedelic folk, unconventional arrangements, and intimate vocal harmonies.
Their latest eleven-track collection follows debut album Mind Palace Music and the subsequent EP Are You There God? It's Me, @. Autosmile was recorded largely at home using modest equipment, supplemented by contributions from friends on cello, violin, and auxiliary percussion.
Previously released cuts "I Know You Are (But What Am I Thinking)", "Punish My Mind", and "Bird" introduced the record's adventurous musical direction. The title track provides an expansive centrepiece that pairs delicate acoustic passages with surprising bursts of electronic texture.
The duo have gained acclaim for a distinct collaborative process in which each member initiates ideas in isolation before completing each other's compositions. Discover more folk and acoustic innovators in our folk section.
