HUBRID’s Neon Necrosis arrives on 20 June from THE DARKWAVE, and the title does not exactly whisper. It sounds like a city rotting beautifully under neon signage, which is exactly the right mental image for music tagged as cyberpunk, dark synthwave, darkelectro, darksynth, horrorsynth, synthwave and electronic metal. This is electronic music with sharp corners and a theatrical sense of decay. The appeal of darksynth is that it takes retro-futuristic glamour and infects it with dread, making every glowing grid look a little diseased. Neon Necrosis leans into that visual language immediately. It is soundtrack music for imaginary chase scenes, rain-slick alleys and machines that probably became self-aware for all the wrong reasons. Subtle? No. Effective? Very likely.
