Fontaines D.C. drummer Tom Coll has joined Michael Roe and Ken Allen to launch Inis Records, an independent record label and shop devoted entirely to Irish music. The project aims to provide stronger infrastructure for Irish artists and small labels while preserving important recordings that have disappeared from circulation.
Its first offering is a reissue of ‘Against Nature’, the cult 1989 album by Fatima Mansions, with future plans including traditional-music and showband compilations. The shop will carry Irish records from across genres and eras while making space for emerging musicians who lack conventional distribution. Inis means island, but the objective is the opposite of isolation: creating a platform through which Irish music can build locally and travel internationally. It is a practical response to an industry that often celebrates scenes enthusiastically while forgetting they require shops, labels, distribution and somebody who understands the spreadsheet.
