Jake Xerxes Fussell announces his sixth studio album ‘The Old Beloved Path’ and offers a new interpretation of ‘Rock Island Line’. Fussell has spent his career treating traditional folk music as living material rather than a collection of historical objects requiring museum lighting. His version of the American standard slows the familiar song into a tender alt-country meditation, revealing emotional space inside a composition many listeners may assume they already understand.

The forthcoming album continues Fussell’s practice of combining fragments, inherited melodies and regional traditions with contemporary arrangements. That approach allows old songs to feel present without being unnecessarily modernised or fitted with a drum machine nobody requested. ‘Rock Island Line’ is warm, patient and respectful, but it also carries Fussell’s unmistakable personality.
