Jonny’s Day Out make Zumba sound like folk-rock stretching before the weirdness begins

Jonny’s Day Out’s Zumba lands on 18 June from the project’s JDO release, and the title alone gives it a slightly oddball charge. Zumba as a word carries movement, group energy and mild exercise-class chaos, which is not a bad fit for indie rock that refuses to sit too still. The Portland project tags the track around alternative folk rock, indie rock and rock and roll, placing it in a loose guitar-song tradition where personality matters as much as polish. The Bandcamp page’s casual world of Louie the bunny, Bobby the bear and Red the horse gives the release a private mythology that feels refreshingly unmarket-tested. Zumba is the kind of small independent track that does not need to explain itself too much. It just needs to move, grin, and maybe make the room do something mildly embarrassing.
