Koleżanka has announced ‘Zone 2’, an album written during recovery from a severe flexor-tendon injury that left artist Kristina Moore unable to use her left hand and uncertain whether she would ever play guitar again. The record’s title refers to the difficult anatomical area where the injury occurred, sometimes described as no man’s land because of unpredictable surgical outcomes.
Unable to work normally, Moore began composing on a borrowed keyboard using one hand, transforming physical limitation and grief into an entirely new creative process. The album is introduced through ‘Lessons in Textiles’ and ‘Levers and Pulleys’, two songs that move through eerie keyboard pop, minimalism and increasingly elaborate arrangement.
‘Levers and Pulleys’ became especially important as Moore later learned to perform its piano parts with both hands. ‘Zone 2’ arrives on 18 September and documents recovery without pretending healing is simple or inspirational at every stage. Sometimes creativity does not overcome adversity with a dramatic training montage. Sometimes it sits at a keyboard, cries, laughs and slowly learns which fingers will cooperate today.
