Los Angeles dream-pop duo Magic Wands have released "Guardians," the second preview of forthcoming album Sun Kiss, due in early 2027. Dexy and Chris Valentine describe the song as looking back on a period of your life that genuinely happened but has become so distant it almost feels fictional. That idea is practically purpose-built for dream pop, a genre that has spent decades making memory sound as though somebody left it outside overnight in a fog.

"Guardians" combines the duo's established mixture of shoegaze shimmer, post-punk shadow and goth atmosphere without becoming completely swallowed by texture. It follows previous Sun Kiss preview "Diamond Rain" and continues an unusually productive period for Magic Wands. Their sixth album Cascades arrived in late 2025, while 2026 has already brought the Wishing Well EP and a remix collection. Wishing Well also included "Sacred Mirrors," a collaboration with The Psychedelic Furs guitarist John Ashton.

"Guardians" therefore does not feel like a band slowly restarting an engine between album cycles; Magic Wands are moving at a rate that makes the concept of downtime seem largely theoretical. The new single is nostalgic without becoming sentimental, dreamy without disappearing completely into the mist, and another persuasive reason to keep Sun Kiss on the early-2027 radar.
