Mali Obomsawin has announced Automatic, a new solo album arriving 16 October through Out Of Your Head Records.
Known both for her role in Deerlady and for work across jazz, experimental music and avant-folk, Obomsawin builds the record around questions of cultural ownership, identity and independence.
Producer and turntablist Andrew Broder helped incorporate archival recordings of Obomsawin's Abenaki ancestors into the new material.
The title track arrives today as the first major introduction to the album, placing upright bass, experimental production and historical recordings inside the same creative space. Automatic promises a deeply personal meeting point between contemporary composition and inherited cultural memory.
