Utah indie-pop artist Maz, the musical project of songwriter Marley Guevara, has announced a five-track EP titled Loveandpain, arriving December 11 via Winspear. The release is introduced by the dreamy, ethereal title track, exploring the inseparable nature of romantic vulnerability and happiness.
A defining feature of the recording is Guevara's incorporation of newly rediscovered reel-to-reel family tapes featuring her great-grandfather singing and playing acoustic guitar. Rather than keeping these recordings tucked away in family archives, she integrated snippets of his playing directly into the song’s rhythm and harmony, bridging four generations of musical storytelling.
The EP also features tracks titled "Coffee", "Bullshit", "Radiosilence", and "Choke". Maz has earned growing acclaim for her innovative covers of 1990s alternative rock, and this new body of work expands her signature blend of shoegaze textures and bedroom-pop melodies.
