Acclaimed songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and painter Natalie Bergman has announced a five-track EP titled I Killed A North American Songbird, arriving November 6 through Third Man Records. The project is introduced by opening track "White Oak", accompanied by a video directed by Andreas Ekelund and co-directed by Bergman, alongside an electronic remix by Kosta G.
The EP follows Bergman’s celebrated 2025 solo LP My Home Is Not In This World, but pivots its thematic focus outward toward ecology and vanishing natural habitats. Bergman reveals that an accidental collision in which her truck struck an indigo bunting triggered an intense emotional crisis, inspiring a suite of paintings and ultimately the music on this EP.
Additional tracks on the collection include "Indigo Bunting", "Disappearing", "The Way That You Love Me", and "Peregrine Falcon". Rather than issuing broad political slogans, Bergman approaches ecological fragility through tangible personal sorrow and a renewed reverence for the natural world.
