Nikonn keeps things sleek, playful and just a little dangerous on Naughty

Nikonn’s Naughty does not waste time pretending to be more complicated than it is. Released on 1 June, the London producer’s new track sits in the space between electronic, chillout, dance, indie and soundtrack music. That combination gives it a useful flexibility: it can work as a night-drive cue, a warm-up track, a stylish playlist cut or the kind of small electronic single that finds its audience through mood rather than hype. Nikonn has been releasing consistently, and Naughty continues that run with a title that promises a little mischief without overloading the concept. Sometimes independent electronic music succeeds because it builds a whole mythology. Sometimes it succeeds because it knows how to create a clean feeling in three or four minutes and then get out of the way. Naughty seems to understand that second lane very well.
