Olof Dreijer releases Loud Bloom on 8 May via DH2, the electronic imprint of Dirty Hit, marking the long-awaited debut solo album from one half of The Knife. Dreijer’s name carries a heavy legacy in left-field electronic music, but Loud Bloom is not only about reputation.
It presents him in a more sunlit, rhythmic and collaborative mode, with flower-titled tracks and a strong sense of global club movement. The album features contributions from Sudanese singer MaMan, Colombian artist Diva Cruz and South African artist Toya Delazy, among others, and draws from cumbia, kuduro, dancehall, techno and experimental pop.
After years of releases, remixes and production work connected to Fever Ray and other projects, this debut solo LP feels like a proper statement of identity. Loud Bloom suggests a sound that is bright but not simple, joyful but still politically aware, and designed for both body and imagination.
