New Jersey musician Will Schwester has released Plague Skater III, the final album under his Plague Skater identity, bringing a particularly unpredictable DIY project to its conclusion. The twenty-track collection runs for approximately an hour and combines grunge, punk, shoegaze, experimental electronics, acoustic passages and an extended krautrock-inspired noise composition.

Schwester began releasing music as Plague Skater during the pandemic, introducing the project with a self-titled album in 2020 and following it with Plague Skater II in 2021. Subsequent releases explored various experimental directions, but the new album represents a deliberate attempt to bring the original identity to a conclusion.

Its creation was apparently neither quick nor particularly orderly. Schwester describes a lengthy recording process involving changing arrangements, repeated experimentation and the considerable difficulty of completing an ambitious project while ordinary life continues making demands. The finished record incorporates acoustic guitars, violin, keyboards, Auto-Tune, sampling and unconventional song structures. Plague Skater III is not particularly concerned with providing a comfortable listening experience, and that is part of its appeal.
