Mort Garson’s cult electronic album ‘Mother Earth’s Plantasia’ receives its first authorised anniversary reissue to mark fifty years since its original release. Created as warm music for plants and the people caring for them, the 1976 record became a beloved early showcase for the Moog synthesiser. Originally, copies were distributed with house plants or selected mattress purchases, which remains one of music history’s more imaginative retail strategies.
The new edition will use recycled vinyl, recycled-paper packaging and a seed-paper download card, while restoring the original indoor plant-care booklet. Special anniversary events in Chicago and New York will feature artists including Helado Negro, Makaya McCraven, SPELLLING, Mary Lattimore and Green-House alongside botanical workshops and plant sales. At last, record collectors can enjoy rare electronic music while also feeling judged by a fern.
