British composer and multi-instrumentalist Poppy Ackroyd has announced a European and British concert schedule supporting her album Liminal, released through One Little Independent Records. The newly published November 4 tour coverage introduces an extensive programme of performances designed to explore the relationship between piano, violin and atmospheric instrumental composition.
Ackroyd begins her European dates in Dresden on November 9 before visiting Berlin, Jena, Bochum, Hamburg, Hannover and Bielefeld. The tour concludes its initial European run at Utrecht's TivoliVredenburg on November 16, providing Dutch listeners with an opportunity to experience the material in an intimate setting. Further British concerts are scheduled for February and March 2027, including Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Southampton and Bristol.
Liminal represents an important creative development for Ackroyd, who wrote and recorded the album during a period of personal upheaval and relocation. Rather than attempting to eliminate every imperfection, she embraced a more immediate recording process and developed the material over approximately three months. The album was created entirely from piano and violin, with Ackroyd performing, recording, producing and mixing the material herself.
Her performances extend beyond conventional piano technique, incorporating muted strings, plucked textures and percussive sounds produced directly from the instrument. The album itself is not a new November 4 release; the news concerns the newly publicised touring programme. Ackroyd demonstrates that experimental instrumental music can communicate complicated emotions without requiring conventional vocals. Apparently two instruments provide more than enough material when the person playing them has an extraordinary imagination.
