Texas crossover-thrash band Power Trip have released "Precinct 3" and "Scavenger," their first new studio recordings since the death of original vocalist Riley Gale in 2020. The double single introduces Seth Gilmore, who joined the band in 2023, and marks the beginning of a significant new chapter for one of modern heavy music's most respected underground acts.
The songs were recorded at Empire Sound in Carrollton, Texas, with producer Jacob Hansen and guitarist Blake Ibanez. "Precinct 3" examines the dangers of unchecked authority, while "Scavenger" addresses people who exploit the achievements and efforts of others in intense metal and thrash arrangements. The band have explained that preserving the spirit of their earlier work was particularly important during the writing process.
Rather than attempting to recreate Gale's performance style, Gilmore brings his own voice to material that remains recognisably connected to Power Trip's established sound. The songs will receive a limited seven-inch vinyl edition, with a full-length album planned for spring 2027 following 2017's influential Nightmare Logic.
