Rodney Owl, the recording name of songwriter Mark McConville, has released his third album Loneliness Is Contagious.
The Lurgan, County Armagh native has been based in Galway since the late 1990s, and the new record continues the warm, literate guitar music heard on 2023’s Truth Is Broken.
Recorded at Night Owl Studios in Galway, the album draws on folk and understated indie-rock traditions, with reference points that have included Lambchop, early R.E.M. and Nick Drake.
The release also arrives with a deliberate stance: McConville has confirmed no generative AI was used in making the album, and has chosen to keep it off Spotify in favor of artist-first distribution.
