Roy Montgomery and Martha Skye Murphy let Cloudburst open the sky over Nebular

Roy Montgomery and Martha Skye Murphy’s Nebular announcement on 24 June has the pleasing inevitability of two artists whose music already sounded like it belonged in the same weather system. The New Zealand guitar composer and the London singer-songwriter have shared Cloudburst as the first glimpse of the album, and the title suggests exactly the kind of sudden atmospheric break their collaboration seems built for. Montgomery’s guitar language often feels like landscape translated into electricity: wide, patient, haunted and spacious. Murphy brings a vocal presence capable of turning fragility into theatre without losing control. Together, they sound like they could make silence feel meteorological. Nebular is a perfect title for this world: mist, dust, formation, distance and gravity not yet fully explained. Cloudburst sounds less like a single and more like a sky opening at the wrong, beautiful moment.
