Sailor Honeymoon make imperfection sound like the point on The Worst of Sailor Honeymoon

Sailor Honeymoon’s debut-album announcement is exactly the kind of story a daily indie digest should love: a Seoul punk trio pushing against the idea that Korean music exported internationally has to look perfect, sound perfect and behave like a luxury product. The Worst of Sailor Honeymoon arrives on 14 August via Good Good 굿굿 Records / [PIAS], with new single I Wanna Leave You introducing the band’s alternate world of humour, direct speech and local detail. The lineup of Abi Raymaker, Zaeeun Shin and Yelim Kim grew out of informal jam sessions in Seoul’s independent scene, which gives the record a nice origin story: not a corporate training system, but friends making noise until a shape appeared. In a global music culture obsessed with polish, Sailor Honeymoon sound valuable because they want to be human first. That may be the most punk thing here.
