31 July 2026 – Spike Turn British Synth-Pop Toward The Event Horizon

Spike release their self-titled debut album, a ten-track collection created by film composer and experimental musician Hannah McLoughlin. Cold-wave intimacy, wiry synth-punk, dream pop and hauntological textures support songs whose science-fiction imagery carries unexpectedly human emotion.

'Unending' draws from Ursula K. Le Guin, while 'Event Horizon' uses the depth of a black hole to describe devotion. Tape loops, flute fragments, melodica, church bells and driving drum samples create intricate production without burying the pop hooks. The album also includes a version of 'Werewolves of London', ensuring the cosmic journey remains vulnerable to local wildlife. Spike feels retro-futurist without becoming nostalgic, imagining an alternative British synth tradition in which the machines are strange, the melodies are direct and the black hole has excellent acoustics.
