25 September 2026 – Tegan and Sara Declare Our Year With Lights and Felix Cartal

Tegan and Sara return with their first new song since 2022, teaming with fellow Canadians Lights and producer Felix Cartal for "Our Year." Released today after being announced on the Quin sisters' birthday, the track grew out of the four musicians' shared relationship with Canada's West Coast and the strange mixture of affection, frustration and optimism that comes with choosing both a place and a creative career repeatedly.

The central idea is wonderfully familiar: another year somehow disappeared while you were dealing with ordinary life, but perhaps this next one will finally be the year everything falls into place. It is mildly delusional optimism, which may also be the basic fuel supply of the entire independent music industry. For Tegan and Sara, the single carries additional weight because 2026 marks twenty-eight years of making music together.

Rather than presenting the comeback as a monumental reinvention, they have chosen a collaborative pop song about persistence, aging, ambition and continuing anyway. Lights and Felix Cartal make natural partners, bringing an electronic-pop sheen to the twins' melodic instincts without erasing their identity. After four years without new Tegan and Sara material, "Our Year" feels less like restarting the machine than discovering somebody wisely left it plugged in.
