Los Angeles collective untitled (halo) release "sex" today, another preview of their self-titled debut album arriving November 6 through Dirty Hit. The song is a glitchy, high-energy collision of gang vocals, electronic disruption and Ariana Mamnoon's unusually calm delivery, creating something that feels simultaneously euphoric and slightly exhausted.

Mamnoon describes the atmosphere as walking out of a 4AM rave and finally seeing natural light, which is perhaps the only time sunrise can feel both beautiful and mildly accusatory. The accompanying video was directed by the band and filmed between Los Angeles and Paris on handycam, continuing the self-made visual approach surrounding previous singles "easy rider" and "aimee lou wood freestyle."

untitled (halo) emerged from frustration with what its members saw as a lack of genuine scene-building in Los Angeles, responding by organising their own events and parties rather than merely complaining online, a dangerously constructive approach. The upcoming record was written in their Glassell Park studio through periods of heartbreak, isolation and existential uncertainty. The group call the emotional backdrop California Melancholia. "sex" proves melancholy can apparently still dance until closing time.
