Leeds garage-rock quartet indie-rock outfit Vehicle have announced their second album Fumes, scheduled for March 19, 2027 through Esco Romanesco Records. The announcement introduces new single "Miserable Vibes", a composition combining jangling guitars, Americana influences and lyrics examining the complicated relationship between nostalgia and contemporary life.
Vehicle consists of vocalist and guitarist Michael Cable, guitarist Danny Sockett, bassist Connall Doo and drummer Jack Devlin. Their debut album Widespread Vehicle appeared in 2025, establishing a reputation for melodic songwriting and a willingness to combine different guitar-music traditions.
"Miserable Vibes" explores the experience of becoming excessively attached to earlier cultural periods while struggling to understand the present. Cable describes the song's central character as somebody attempting to escape a dependency on nostalgia, only to discover that memories and borrowed cultural references have become inseparable from everyday experience. The arrangement draws inspiration from British musician Denim and the playful guitar-pop experimentation associated with the early 1990s.
Earlier singles "You Are Not a Cowboy / My Future Wife (I Love You)" and "Escalators" introduced other aspects of the forthcoming album. Vehicle have also announced November performances, including a Sheffield appearance supporting Formal Sppeedwear and a London show with Australian band Delivery. The new material suggests a group interested in exploring familiar musical influences without simply recreating them. Nostalgia can be a dangerous creative habit, particularly when everybody insists that music was better before they were born. Fortunately, Vehicle appear sufficiently aware of the problem to turn it into a song. Check out our indie rock section for more.
