Louisville industrial-punk trio Virgin Birth have announced six-track EP The Dead End for October 16 through Never Nervous Records. Phillip Olympia, Jake Miller and Matt Haas recorded the project at The Slaughtered Lamb Studio, which sounds less like somewhere one books recording time and more like a location from which nobody should accept a mysterious invitation after midnight. The title track was released October 2, but today's announcement gives it a larger framework.
Never Nervous describes the new material as moving away from the broader collapse explored by earlier Virgin Birth releases toward something more immediate, claustrophobic and personal. That sounds entirely appropriate for a band blending synthesizers, drum machines, punk aggression and darker electronic textures.
The Dead End is Virgin Birth's first EP since 2024's From Behind, following 2025 full-length Total Annihilation and a run of subsequent singles and collaborative releases. A title-track video is also expected shortly, while additional performances and physical editions are planned. Industrial music has traditionally been excellent at documenting societal machinery grinding people into paste. Virgin Birth now appear interested in what the person inside the machine feels like.
