British experimental-pop songwriter Westerman has announced Reception, a four-track companion EP arriving November 6 via Partisan Records. Following his praised album A Jackal's Wedding, the new EP features recordings originating from the same fertile studio sessions with visionary producer Marta Salogni.
Lead single "L/C" pairs intricate, unhurried instrumental arrangements with Westerman's distinctive, warm vocal delivery. The songwriter reveals that the four companion pieces reflect a colder emotional and sonic temperature than the main album, influenced heavily by winter sessions on an island in Italy's Lake Iseo inside a stone villa that famously lacked adequate heating.
Across tracks "Congress", "L/C", "Norman", and "Vermuth", Westerman rewards careful listening through subtle guitar harmonics, modular synthesis, and poetic lyricism that sidesteps easy pop melodrama in favour of nuanced reflection.
Freezing inside a lakeside Italian stone house might not be comfortable, but it certainly yields captivating musical atmosphere. Discover more thoughtful singer-songwriter gems in our indie pop catalog.
