Adam Wiltzie has completed 'Friendship Survival Guide', an orchestral psychedelic-drone album begun with the late composer Jóhann Jóhannsson in 2013, arriving on Deutsche Grammophon in modern classical and ambient drone.
The record will be released on 18 September, accompanied by a three-part short film directed by Jonas Govaerts. Wiltzie and Jóhannsson first met after a Stars of the Lid performance in Prague and subsequently developed a close friendship and working partnership.
With the approval of Jóhannsson’s family, Wiltzie returned to the tapes between 2023 and 2025. Contributors include Tim Hecker, Bryan Senti, Francesco Donadello and Steve Albini, who recorded guitar parts at Electrical Audio before his own death. 'Friendship Survival Guide' is a living continuation of a relationship, completed with patience and emotional responsibility.
