Perth indie-rock artist ALEIA has released "Middle Name", a new single exploring the uncomfortable experience of loving somebody who never seems to appreciate the effort involved. Arriving on November 6, the recording combines brooding guitars, expressive vocals and emotionally direct songwriting. The release follows her 2025 debut EP Public Humiliation and more recent single "Willpower", continuing the development of an artist whose music frequently examines difficult relationships without attempting to disguise their consequences.

In an interview with AAA Backstage, ALEIA identified five songs that influenced the recording, providing an interesting insight into her creative process. Blondshell's "Man" helped shape the lyrical perspective, particularly its willingness to acknowledge poor romantic decisions without pretending the narrator has suddenly become wiser. Mercury's "Justin's Headed Out" provided inspiration for the guitar arrangements, encouraging a rawer sound influenced by 1990s alternative rock.

ALEIA's interest in contemporary guitar music is evident throughout the new recording, which balances accessible melodies with instrumentation that retains a deliberately imperfect character. "Middle Name" examines the painful realisation that affection is not necessarily returned simply because somebody has invested considerable emotional energy. The song also demonstrates how emerging Australian musicians continue developing independent identities outside conventional mainstream-pop expectations.

Apparently the modern dating experience remains an exceptionally reliable source of songwriting material, although being reduced to somebody's emotional afterthought is considerably more enjoyable when accompanied by excellent distorted guitars.
