22 September 2026 – Balming Tiger's Wonjin Announces Solo Debut 'Mangsangrok' With 'Candy'

Balming Tiger member Wonjin is stepping out alone with Mangsangrok, his first full-length album under his own name. The project arrives with new single 'Candy', described as a psychedelic love fantasy and performed in a one-take full-band video directed by fellow Balming Tiger figures Jan' Qui and San Yawn.

Wonjin has written and composed every song on the forthcoming album himself and, notably, has chosen to include no featured artists. That makes Mangsangrok a particularly revealing solo statement from somebody best known as part of one of South Korea's most freewheeling alternative collectives. The record's title and concept revolve around the stream of imagined scenarios, anxieties and exaggerated meanings that occupy Wonjin's thoughts: worrying about events that have not happened, reading too much into small gestures and generally allowing the brain to become its own slightly unreliable screenwriter.

Musically, the album is expected to move across multiple styles rather than settle into one genre. 'Candy' provides a suitably colourful opening chapter, balancing hazy psychedelia with rock-band looseness and Balming Tiger's familiar sense of humour. In the realm of alternative pop and indie rock, leaving the collective does not mean leaving the weirdness behind.
