Philadelphia musician Catherine Elicson, frontwoman of noise-pop pioneers Empath, has shared two solo singles titled "I'm On Fire" and "All Sound". Both tracks are taken from her debut solo LP River of Fat, scheduled for November 6 through Community Music.

Tracked primarily on a four-track cassette machine, Elicson performed all guitars, synthesizers, and samplers herself. While previous single "Figure" was quiet and ethereal, the new tracks highlight wide stylistic variety: "I'm On Fire" builds around tense, motorik guitar loops, while "All Sound" explores freeform ambient improvisation.

Alongside the studio cuts, Elicson released a live performance video for "I'm On Fire", recorded outdoor at a New Jersey cedar tree farm using guitar pedals, loopers, and a rented gas generator.

River of Fat offers a captivating portrait of Elicson's solo identity beyond the collaborative whirlwind of Empath. Read more experimental features in our news archive.
