Virginia and Washington DC-area alternative-rock group Day Aches have reached the scheduled release date of their second studio album withforwardmotion, arriving November 4 through Other People Records. The ten-track collection follows 2023 debut One Last Dream Before Dying and represents the group's first full-length project for the label. Day Aches have developed a musical identity combining the atmospheric qualities of shoegaze with heavier influences from grunge, hardcore and alternative metal.
Their latest material expands those ideas through dense guitar arrangements, melodic vocals and rhythmic passages designed to introduce greater contrast between the quieter and more aggressive elements. The album includes "True Death", "In Water", "Rei III", "Exit Wounds", "Signals", "Insert The Blade", "withforwardmotion", "outerheaven", "Third Impact" and "Re-Take After". Its musical direction connects with contemporary bands such as Superheaven, Narrow Head, Soul Blind and Trauma Ray, performers who have helped establish a growing international audience for guitar music that balances heaviness with atmosphere.
The release also demonstrates the continued appeal of physical formats within smaller alternative scenes, with a coloured-vinyl edition available through Other People Records. The album has been listed for November 4 across label and release-calendar sources, although complete streaming availability at the exact editorial cutoff was not independently verified.
Withforwardmotion provides another example of shoegaze evolving beyond the restrained dream-pop arrangements traditionally associated with the genre. Apparently the modern shoegaze musician has discovered that owning enough guitar pedals also makes it possible to produce an extraordinary amount of noise.
