Portland, Maine songwriter Geneviève Beaudoin has released Vegas, her second full-length album under the moniker Dead Gowns. The project was ignited by an emotional trip to Las Vegas, where Beaudoin assisted a close companion with relocating across the country, only for their long-standing friendship to unravel painfully in its wake.

Rather than retreading conventional romantic breakup tropes, Vegas bravely examines the devastating grief that accompanies the dissolution of a platonic bond. Returning to rural Maine, Beaudoin poured her reflections into deeply intimate songs like "New Blue", "Grasp", "However You Are", and "No Longer Contacted".

The album was captured inside a farmhouse near the White Mountains alongside collaborator Luke Kalloch and producers Sam Kassirer and Colin Lester Fleming. Warm acoustic guitars, electric textures, and understated percussion provide a sensitive backdrop for Beaudoin's poignant vocals. An extensive US tour begins this month.

Friendships often shape our identities as profoundly as romantic loves, and Dead Gowns has given that overlooked grief a timeless soundtrack. Read more heartfelt releases across our folk section.
